Thai Biomass Project
Project Details
The project is located in northeast Thailand, in the Surin Province, Muang District. Waste from local rice mills (rice husks) powers the 9.9MW biomass cogeneration power plant. The energy extraction from the rice husk creates green energy that results in carbon savings.

Project Type
The project has been verified by TÜV NORD and has been approved and issued by the Verified Carbon Standard.
This project benefits from strong local sustainable development contributions, and won the Thailand Energy Award in 2008.
It provides a new additional source of income to the local farmers (the rice husks are sourced within a 14km radius of the project site). Excess rice husk ash represents an additional revenue stream for the project through commercial sale and export. The resulting ash is provided to free-of-charge to local farmers to improve the soil quality.
